Nebraska had its first good dose of hot, humid weather this past week. Al Dutcher, University of Nebraska-Lincoln State Climatologist, says cooler temperatures will prevail for the next few days. But, the forecast for the first full week of July says, you guessed it, more rain.

Drought Tool Expands to 48 States
LINCOLN, Neb. A seven-year research effort achieved a milestone last month when the Vegetation Drought Response Index expanded across the 48 states of the continental United States. VegDRI maps, produced every two weeks, combine satellite-based observations of vegetation conditions with climate and biosphysical information to map drought's effect on vegetation at a one-kilometer resolution.

Spring Precipitation Could Have Varying Effects with Some Extremes
LINCOLN, Neb. Once again, Nebraska faces a dual problem. Parts of the western side of the state could face drought problems under below-normal precipitation this spring, but parts of the eastern side of the state could face flood problems under above-normal precipitation, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln state climatologist said.
