University of Nebraska–Lincoln

Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources

At Work For Nebraska

From the Vice Chancellor

Thank you for visiting the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources Web site.  We’re glad you’re here and hope you’ll come back often.

When you’re in Lincoln, please stop by the East Campus.  Our Dairy Store, with its delicious ice cream, cheeses, and other products, is a popular destination for both our on-campus community and visitors.  Plus, the Visitors Center, located in the Dairy Store, offers information about both the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s east and city campuses.

You’ll find IANR at work for Nebraska at many sites throughout our state -- at our Agricultural Research and Development Center near Mead, at four research and extension centers, at 83 county extension offices serving all 93 Nebraska counties, and at other research and extension sites, as well.

We work with the very basics of life – basics none of us can live without.  Food. Water.  People.

What could be more exciting than that?

Our scientists add to the world’s body of knowledge through basic and applied research.  That new knowledge is taught in our classrooms and laboratories. This is a great place to study.

Science-based knowledge also is taught throughout the state through extension education.  Research, teaching, and extension are closely intertwined in IANR as we carry out our land-grant university mission of taking the resources of the university to Nebraska.

It is a mission we take very seriously.

An independent study (atworkfornebraska.unl.edu) recently found the Institute returns a conservative $15 for every one tax dollar Nebraska invests with us.  IANR is both an excellent investment and an economic engine for the state.

We are at work for Nebraska.

Sincerely,
John C. Owens

NU Vice President and
IANR Harlan Vice Chancellor
